The Kota Pekarang sets a new record for the largest container ship to visit Jacksonville.

The largest container ship to visit Jacksonville arrived at JaxPort on Thursday, the Jacksonville Port Authority announced. The ZIM vessel Kota Pekarang stopped at JaxPort Blount Island Marine Terminal after passing through the Panama Canal on its journey from Northeast Asia. At 11,923-TEU, the Kota Pekarang broke the port record held for a little more than a month by 11,000-TEU ZIM vessel Cape Sounio, which docked at Blount Island on March 18. A TEU is a 20-foot container.

By Jennifer A. Dlouhy, Jenny Leonard and Jennifer Jacobs (Bloomberg) — President Donald Trump is seriously considering waiving the requirement that only U.S. flagged vessels can move goods from American ports to Puerto Rico or energy-starved areas of the Northeast, according to people familiar with the deliberations. The issue was debated during an Oval Office meeting on Monday, following requests from Puerto Rico and pressure from oil industry leaders to ease the nearly 100-

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is using an informational video, captured in part by unmanned aerial systems, to educate the public and gain buy-in on its plan to use roundabout intersection designs. “Watching a short video is easier than reading through a plan or report,” said Jamille Robbins, NCDOT’s public involvement and community studies group leader. “The greater utility of these types of videos is that they can be available 24 hours a day, seven

METRO Bus Operators Rescue Driver After Rollover Crash

METRO's leadership thanked 16 bus operators today for their heroism after a routine trip became a day they likely will never forget. As they were traveling on I-45 North last month, a car cut in front of the bus, slammed into a wall and caught fire. Robert Bartlett, the operator who was driving, made a split second decision to stop and help. "It's just what you do. The vehicle was on fire. At any time it could have blown up," said Bartlett. The operators quickly jumped into a

Congestion Pricing: Is There a Perfect Technology Solution?

The technology supporting traffic reduction efforts like congestion pricing largely mirrors toll road technologies, and is poised to venture further into video and GPS-based systems in the future. Conversations around congestion pricing have picked up as more cities — largely internationally — have adopted the measure as a means to reduce car-related congestion in dense urban areas. New York City is set to adopt a congestion pricing plan in parts of Manhattan in 2021, where i
