Oakland Receives Massive Tech Investment

The Port of Oakland has received a US$12.4 million from the California Transportation Commission for the implementation of the Freight Intelligent Transportation System (FITS) management, security systems and roadway improvements.

According to a statement, the FITS will reduce congestions and improve traffic for truckers who carry cargo containers in and out of the Port.

Furthermore, it will also update security systems and provide a common communication platform for emergency first responders.

The investment has come from the California Senate and will be made through the Alameda County Transportation Commission, which will oversee the implementation of the FITS.

Speaking about the investment, Port of Oakland Director of Maritime John Driscoll, said: “This funding will help improve the Port’s maritime operations.

“FITS will help reduce truck wait times and provide a safer and more secure maritime area.”
